Dr. Sid Bruckert-Frisk, DVM graduated from Iowa State University’s Science and Technology program in 1987.  He has been providing excellent veterinary care to community of loyal clientele at Pacific Avenue Veterinary Clinic since 1998.  He is known simply as “Dr.Sid” to his staff, clients and the pets he cares for.  A quality that the clients admire about Dr. Sid is his ability to always explain treatments and diagnosis in terms that clients can easily understand.  Dr. Sid stays involved in his community and is part of the TEAM Spirit program at local schools where he enjoys sharing his interest and love of the veterinary profession with aspiring students.  Dr. Sid is and outdoor enthusiast and environmentalist.  He loves taking his family camping, hiking, canoeing and rafting but his love is bicycling.  You will often see him biking to work, sometimes towing a trailer with his Golden,  Jazzy inside and his lab mix, Tango jogging alongside.  Dr. Sid works extremely hard and everyone who meets him can see immediately, his endless devotion to his family, church, work and community.

Darlene LaRose Cain is a person who works for what she believes in.  In 2001, Darlene held National Chair for the American Diabetes Association (ADA).  In conjunction with her work in the ADA, Darlene is active in organizations that focus on medical research.  Fundraising is something she is passionate about as she works with different organizations.  Along with her passion for research, Darlene understands the importance of education as she held positions on the Sherwood School Board, totaling twelve years of service to the education of children.  Six of those twelve years, Darlene held Chair position on the School Board.  Darlene’s life is balanced in her selfless work for the improvement of humanity, but as Darlene said, “Actually, if you would ask me what in my background is most important to me, I would say raising three kids who are outstanding in their medical professions and continue to contribute to the lives of others, in their daily lives.  That is my greatest contribution to humanity...”

    Growing up on a farm in Gaston, Oregon, Kristin Tarnowski has been interested in training animals of different species from dogs to horses and even teams of oxen.  Kristin follows these interests as she makes her way through life.  When she decided on a college career, she had no doubt in her mind that attending Oregon State University (OSU) to study Animal Sciences was the way to go.  After graduating from OSU, Kristin moved into a career with a family the Elizabeth Perry Montessori School, which led her to the decision to pursue a Masters in Education.  Kristin is now the upper elementary teacher at the Elizabeth Perry Montessori School.

    Kristin keeps busy with her volunteer work, which includes over ten years with Guide Dogs for the Blind where she was a leader, overseeing the training of a group of  Guide Dog puppies and their handlers.  This experience has given Kristin countless hours consulting, training, and encouraging other dog handlers, as well as working individually with many dogs.  Kristin is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and a member of other professional dog training organizations, including the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.

    “I love to learn and push myself as hard as possible so I can always say I did my very best.  When I experience new things, I try to be openminded which I feel gives me the best opportunity to excel at what I am doing.  Training dogs is one of the best opportunities to experience new learning challenges where being openminded is critical.  Working with Dogs Assisting Diabetics is a dream job for me as I am able to combine my passion of working with animals with my passion of working for people.”

Megan Wolfe-McCormick is a recipient of one of  D.A.D.’s dogs.  She is an elementary school teacher and camp director at the Gales Creek Camp for Diabetics.  Megan and her husband James have been involved with the diabetes community, embracing their diagnosis with type 1 as an opportunity to work with others.
